:: Tour around the Island of Tinharé by motor boat or flexboat ::

One of the most popular tours in Morro de São Paulo is a trip around the entire Island of Tinharé with stops in several locations in the archipelago. The tour departs from Morro de São Paulo and takes all day. After visiting the natural pools Garapuá beach you will head all the way down to Velha Boipeba on Boipeba island where you will also have lunch. The journey then continues inland, up the "Rio do Inferno" and tidal channels seamed by mangrove forests until the colonial village of Cairu (on the island of the same name) with its historic São Francisco Monastery (17th century). The next stops are the fishing villages of Canavieras, where oysters can be tasted on a pier, Galeão, Gamboa and finally, after about 17 hours, back to Morro de São Paulo.

:: Tour to Ponta do Curral on the mainland and Gamboa beach ::

A lazy traditional style motorized "saveiro" will take you across the bay to deserted Ponta do Curral Beach, the picturesque tip of mainland Brazil covered by palm groves that is visible in from Hotel Pousada Natureza. From there, you will cross the bay again, to Gamboa Beach on Tinharé Island, where you can have lunch, practice water sports or just enjoy the afternoon sun on a calm beach. The fishing village of Gamboa is nearby, and it is possible to stroll around and take a look.

:: Sailing Tour on a catamaran ::

This tour will put you right in touch with the elements of nature. No noisy engines, just the wind and the sound of the 30 foot catamaran cutting through the waves. If winds allow for it, the tour lasts the entire day. It is divided in two parts, both of which depends on the winds conditions and the tide. One part consists in an excursion along the coves at the Northern side of the island: Porto de Cima, Iate, Praia da Ponta da Pedra and finally Gamboa Beach, where you will visit Hotel Pousada Natureza's own Saling Club and Latitude 13 Restaurant. During the second leg of the tour, the catamaran will soar along the ocean side of the island until beautiful Garapuá Beach, a pictoresque bay of perfect circular shape, where restaurants are available. The tidal conditions of the day determine the direction of the trip, ie. which of the two parts comes first. (The Garapuá leg, moreover, also depends on the winds).

:: Lighthouse Trail ::

This excursion is of short duration. It consists in an easy uphill walk and can be accomplished without a guide. The total distance to cover is about 1500 meters, from Nossa Senhora da Luz Church to the lighthouse and back, taking about one hour. After departing from the church and crossing the Praça da Almendoeira Square, you'll see a steep flight of stairs to your right and a winding track to your left. The track to the left will get you to the lighthouse. You'll pass the island cemetery and reach a "staircase" made of trunks and sand, leading up to the lighthouse through a shady forest. Once you reach the top, you'll come to a small crossing.

The track on the right gets you to a panoramic viewpoint that offers one of the most beautiful sights of Morro de São Paul,. and a Tyrolean traverse (option to slide along a rope) down to Primeira Praia. The one to the left leads to a viewpoint above the historic ruins of the fortress, anda beautiful place to see the sunset.

The ideal time for this hike is around 16.30, because the several spots  on the way — "Toca do Morcego", "Pão de Queijo" and "Anis" — invite to appreciate the spectacular sunset view.

:: The Lighthouse and the Fort ::

While this excursion is short, it features a few tricky segments and is therefore best done with a guide. The total distance to cover is about two kilometers, starting from Nossa Senhor da Luz church and lasts about two hours. After crossing the Praça da Almendoeira Square, you'll walk up a winding track to your left, leaving behind a steep flight of stairs at your right. You'll see the island cemetery to your left and then reach a "staircase" made of trunks and sand that leads up to the lighthouse through a shady forest.
Once you reach the top, you'll see a small crossing. The track of the right brings you to panoramic view point that offers one of the most beautiful sights of Morro de São Paulo.
The trail to the left leads yuo down the hillside to the fort with the help of your guide.
The ideal time for this hike is around 16.30, when the sun is less intense and when a beautiful sunset view waits for you at the fort.

Information regarding guides and fares is available at the reception and in various travel agencies in the village.

:: Gamboa-Galeão trail ::

This is a longer and trickier trail, covering a distance of almost 10 kilometers. It is the only land connection to the small village of Galeão, crossing the forests that borders the Canal of Taperoá. The tour departs from Gamboa or Morro de São Paulo, as early as possible, depending on the tide. It is necessary to bring water and food, as there are no tourism facilities on the way. The trail is used by local piaçava (palm fibre) and dendê (palm oil) planters and it is possible to chat with them and learn about their work and their culture, besides seeing a great deal of the native forests.

Upon reaching Galeão, you'll have a late lunch. Galeão is a simple fishing village without much infrastructure, very unspoiled and charming. It hasn't seen too many changes since colonial times, when its church, dedicated to St. Fransico Xavier was built in a breathtaking panoramic location overlooking the entire bay.
Galeão faces the channel that separates Tinharé Island from the continent. Two smaller islands, Manguinho and Matinha, are located in this channel, where you can observe traditional fishing techniques and practice bird watching. It is possible to see herons, jandaia parakeets, curlews and parrots.
The duration of the trip is 5 to 6 hours, one way (!!), and return is normally by boat. It is also possible to do the trail on horseback.

Information regarding availability, options, schedules and fares is available at the reception and in various travel agencies in the village.
